A/N: Since someone's going to ask, The Maxx is a comic book by Sam Kieth. It was also an animated series on Mtv's "Oddities" back in 1995 and '96. Maxx thinks he's a superhero and he's vowed to protect Julie. Its kind of complicated. lol Just enjoy. I wrote this for the multifandom1000 community on livejournal.com

Julie Winters sits in her apartment, legs folded under, left knee cramping, right foot tingling from lack of circulation. Her long blonde hair is snagged and unwashed and her armpits are sweaty and pungent. She feels gross, but can't quite bring herself to get up and shower. Its easier just to sit here, staring at the television and wallowing in old dreams and half-remembered nightmares.

She turns her head, squinting out the big round window of her apartment at the sky. Lightning flashes in the distance; turquoise highlighting the navy-colored clouds. She bites her lip, knowing she won't be alone for long.

He always comes when a storm rips apart the city. She doesn't mind. Anything to keep herself from listening to the rain alone. Sometimes it's more than she can bear and, as fucked up as it should be, she feels oddly comforted when he's there. Even if he is a big purple homeless guy who thinks he's a superhero. At least he's hers.

A knock sounds sharply at the door, signaling his arrival.

Julie smiles, despite herself and her best efforts, and quickly lets him in. For all that he's stoop-shouldered and slightly shorter than her, he seems to tower over her. His bulk blocks out the winking hallway light as he stares at her from the deep folds of an old ratty blanket. There's a cut on his shoulder.

"Been fighting again, Maxx?" She asks, almost reaching out a hand to touch him. He grunts in typical Maxx fashion and moves past her into the apartment. She turns, tingling foot waking up with a vengeance and her knee cracking with the anticipation of rain. Maxx immediately sits on the couch, the battered furniture sagging beneath his great form with a groan. "You hungry?"

"Got any of those cheesy chips I like?" For a big guy, he could sound an awful lot like a kid, his gruff voice hopeful. Julie sighs and nods her head, then retrieves the cheesy chips from the kitchen.

Maxx takes them without so much as a thank you and starts flipping through the channels until he gets to something he likes. Julie hears a familiar theme song and half-smiles beneath her greasy bangs. Outside, the skies open up and pour bucket after bucket onto the damaged, frightened cityscape. Inside, Julie Winters sits down next to her hero.

She lays her head on his muscular shoulder, enjoying the musky scent of him and the way he moves into her ever so slightly. She doesn't know what this is. She doesn't understand the relationship between them or why he keeps coming back and why she lets him in. She just knows she likes him and she trusts him. And that's enough for her.

As he continues to munch on the cheesy chips, she slips off into sleep, the Gilligan's Island theme song in her head and the sure knowledge that she's safe in her heart. Just for tonight. Just with him.

And in the darkness, Maxx smiles and watches her sleep.
